We have won a few awards for our design work and we have even designed and built a few awards for others. Jon recently oversaw the design and production of the 2014 Hunter TAFE Awards by design students Sharna, Sam and Pete – well done guys.
The awards utilised a unique casting process that was a challenge for all involved, including the foundry; for each award recycled aluminium was cast around a block of reclaimed Turpentine timber, the molten aluminium infiltrating the grain of the timber and tieing the two materials together. The gasses released from the scorched timber created an individual pattern on the cast surface of each award.
