Jon is principal designer of neo industrial design.
Jon comes form a long line of “makers”; carpenters, builders, cabinet makers and boat builders, he first became interested in industrial design through a family friend the UK industrial designer Eric Kemp before studing Sculpture and Industrial design at Victoria College, Melbourne.
His career started with five years managing the design department of Design Count a large product and exhibition design and research and development consultancy in Melbourne. There he designed everything from bottle tops to international motor-shows and custom vehicles and toys to hairdryers before moving on to pursue an interest in special effects and film props working for Mothers Art Productions on local film and television.
Jon lectured in industrial design at universities in NSW and Victoria for several years in parallel to running neo industrial design and was also innovation assessor to the Australian Innovation Centre, New South Wales Department of State and Regional Development and the Hunter Industry Development Centre.
Jon’s Passion for design and diverse background of practical (and theoretical) design and innovation experience has built neo industrial designs portfolio in products you probably see every day.
His brother Andrew is also a very talented Melbourne industrial designer who specialises in custom furniture.
